Day 1

Well, it’s been 19 months since Matthew passed away, and some of his friends, Joe Avino, Charlie Stein, and Jake Zimmer decided to pool together their brains, their hearts, their time, and their bodies to come up with a #12 challenge.  As Matthew’s mother, I will be forever deeply indebted to his dear friends and loved ones for keeping his spirit alive in their hearts and minds.  Although I don’t expect anyone else to partake in this challenge, I will do my best to honor Matt over the next 12 days.  I will do it in various ways-- this is my pledge:

1.   I will work out every day, it may be 12 miles, 12,000 steps, 12 sit-ups, or 12 of something else that is healthy.

2.   I will try to donate to one charity every day—in Matthew’s name.

3.   I will try to do at least one extra act of kindness every day, because I know, that no matter our beliefs or opinions, Matt would want us all to be kind.

4.   I will write in this brand-new blog one onelastgoal.com over the next 12 days, to reflect on Matthew and to share thoughts I have during this challenge. I am certainly not the writer Matthew was, but I will try my best.

Who knows, maybe after practicing these things for 12 days in a row, some of them will become more a of habit.

Cheers to Matthew and his love of people, sports, animals, education, and the search for the truth.

With hope,
